EMDR
In addition to creative therapy I also offer EMDR. (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
This is a psychotherapy that is recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and the World Health Organisation as a treatment for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). However, it can help with a range of difficulties that may relate to trauma experienced at any point in life.
”EMDR helps you process and recover from past experiences that are affecting your mental health and wellbeing. It helps you process the negative images, emotions, beliefs and body sensations associated with traumatic memories that seem to be stuck.”

EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy technique developed to help people process and recover from trauma or distressing life experiences. It uses guided eye movements or other types of bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories. EMDR is still a psychotherapy so there is a period of history taking to understand how past events may be impacting present day life.
Sessions may also involve teaching relaxation techniques and using guided imagery but this is bespoke to each client. In my practice I often use visual imagery and art therapy techniques as for some clients this is less distressing than talking about their experiences.
How does EMDR work?
In EMDR sessions, the therapist guides the client to focus on troubling memories while using movements or stimuli that involve a bi-lateral physiological response. This can involve watching a moving light, tapping, sounds or a screen based tool. This process helps reduce the emotional impact of the memories and allows for healthier beliefs and feelings to take their place.
Who can benefit?
EMDR is particularly effective for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but it is also used to treat anxiety, depression, phobias, grief, chronic pain, nightmares and other stress-related issues.
Benefits
- Reduces distress from traumatic memories.
- Improves emotional regulation and well-being.
- Often works faster than traditional talk therapies for trauma.
I am an accredited practitioner registered with EMDR UK.
